How to verify site using Google Webmaster Tools

Google webmaster is a free service that helps you to maintain your site presence in Google search engine results. To use Google Webmaster Tools Google will prompt you to verify your site with their services.

Before you begin
IF you have a site wide password or a password on your homepage then remove it for the verification process. Re add it after your domain is verified.

If you have a custom domain the domain should be mapped properly. For best results it is recommended that you wait for 72 hours after mapping of your domain before verifying it with Google Webmaster Tools.

Log on to your Google account.
Verification with Google Webmaster Tool will not work       on trial sites because trial sites are hidden behind CAPTCHA. IF you have trail version website then upgrade it to paid service before proceeding further.log on 1

Step 1 Set a primary Domain
In domain settings ensure that the domain you are verifying is set as the primary domain. Your primary domain should have label next to it.primary domain

Step2-Add your domain to Google Webmaster Tools
If you are new to Google Webmaster Tools you will be asked to add your first site. If you are familiar with the Google Webmaster Tool, add   the site by clicking Add a Site in Webmaster Tools Home.

If you are using a domain which is not linked to a Google Apps account go the next step to verify your domain.Add domain

Step 3- Choose a method to verify your domain
After clicking Add a site you will have different methods of verifying your domain in front of you. Google will present a method based where your domain is registered. It is recommended to user their methods but if you can’t use the recommended method then Google also offers alternate methods. Below are those methods.verification method

Domain Provider
Google provide this method depending on where the domain is hosted. Each domain provider has a unique way of verifying. You only have to log into your account with your domain provider.

TXT Record
Google will provide you a unique record to add as the TXT value in your DNS settings. If you registered a custom domain with Squarespace, you can also add a TXT record in Advanced Domain Settings.

CNAME Record
Google will provide you a unique record to add as the CNAME in your DNS settings. If you registered a custom domain with Squarespace, you can also add a TXT record in Advanced Domain Settings.

HTML file upload
For uploading the HTML file, download the HTML file from the link Google Webmaster Tools and upload it in your account with your domain provider. This method also works with other provider but not with custom domain registered with Squarespace.

HTML Tag
Google also offers an HTML Meta tag which you can copy and paste into the header box in code injection.

Google Analytics
For using this method you need to use asynchronous tracking mode. After receiving the tracking code add it to Code injection.

Google Tag manager
For using this method you need to use container snippet container snippet. You must have the Manager permission for getting the Tag Manager container.

Step 4- Verify your domain
If the Verification is done successfully then you will use a confirmation message. Click Continue to open your Site Dashboard.verify

Crawl Errors
On verifying your site in Google Webmaster Tools, you will see a message displaying parts of URL restricted by robot.txt. This is completely normal. We ask Google not to crawl these pages because they are meant for internal use only or showing duplicate content that can count against a site SEO.
